Help On... Document Types The icon for a very useful help file!

This website links to lots of different kinds of files. We use the same "icons" for each represented file, and although most of these are "standard" icons, some are a little less known.

As such, this page lists the icons used, provides a description of the documents / files associated with the icons, and also links to any tools needed to read the files

Icons And Descriptions

This table shows the icons and describes their uses...

Icon
Description
The icon for a blank web page or basic document.

This is a blank or plain text document.

You can usually read this using Wordpad or Notepad - which comes by default with all copies of Microsoft Windows.

The icon for a link to a remote web page or article.

A remote web page.

Clicking on this icon will load up the remote page in a new window. This is primarily used in the Article Library.

The icon for an Adobe Acrobat document.

An Adobe Acrobat Document.

Adobe Acrobat documets are a universally-readable format, but you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader software on your computer to read it.

Adobe Acrobat can be downloaded from www.Adobe.com.

The icon for a very useful help file!

A Help file or page.

Help files, like this one, are useful "How To..." or "What Is..." pages which explain all about what you're currently looking at. Always worth a look, especially on the Online Bookings page.

The icon for a Winzip file.

A WinZip file.

Winzip files are compressed files, i.e. they are packed up very small to make it easier and faster to download them. You will need WinZip in order to view the contents of these files.

Winzip can be downloaded from www.Winzip.com.

The icon for a Microsoft Word document.

A Microsoft Word file.

Microsoft Word usually comes as part of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works packages.

A local web page.

In the Article Library, copies of a lot of Articles are held locally. Clicking on this icon will launch the local copy of the Article - useful if the remote web page holding the Article cannot be reached for some reason.

The icon for an email link.

Email.

This isn't a document, but clicking on this will launch your default email browser so that you can send an email to the listed person or organisation.

If you don't have an email system set up on your computer, you may need to copy the email link listed next to the Email icon and copy it into your webmail browser if you have one. Failing that, you may have to contact the person or organisation via another method.
